What’s Safe to Blog?

Filed under: Blog — kkempf @ 12:52 pm

This topic came up at work the other day, and I thought I’d elaborate for a moment on the unofficial conclusion we arrived at. Specifically, the question was this: where is the line drawn between fact, opinion, libel, and liability on a blog?

I have the luxury of knowing an attorney who wouldn’t bill me for the question, and received three solid recommendations:

1. You can mention a company or product by name, as long as your discussion is legitimate.
2. No 3rd party domain names/pieces of domain names or trademarks can be used in the blog title or URL.
3. To protect yourself and your company, don’t specify where you work, thereby keeping the blog personal in nature.
